“Hairspray”: A KidStage summer stock production from Village Theatre, the musical plays at the Everett Performing Arts Center through Aug. 21. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Thursdays-Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays at 2710 Wetmore Ave., Everett. Tickets are $16, with a discount for youth and seniors. More information at www.villagetheatre.org. “Carrie, The Musical”: The nonprofit Ballyhoo Theatre presents the musical through Aug. 14 at Edmonds Heights School (the former Woodway High School), 23200 100th Ave. W., Edmonds. The cast of 25 teen actors directed by Shileah Corey performs at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 and 13 and 2 p.m. Aug. 14. Tickets are $7 at the door. Based on the Stephen King novel

“Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon”: The Tim Noah Thumbnail Theater hosts this comedy by Don Zolidis and directed by Eric Lewis. Two narrators attempt to recreate all 209 Brothers Grimm fairy tales in a wild, fast-paced extravaganza. To make it more difficult, they attempt to combine them into one gigantic fable using Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and other more obscure stories like Lean Lisa and The Devil’s Grandmother. Shows are 2 and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13, and 2 p.m. Aug. 14 at 1211 Fourth St., Snohomish. Tickets are $10 or $5 for seniors. Not suitable for children under 10. Call 360-568-9412.

Skagit River Shakespeare Festival: This 15th season by the troupe features “The Merchant of Venice,” the classic tale of love and money, this time played out in Las Vegas, and the rarely produced comedy “Cymbeline,” the tale of a family with problems. Through Aug. 13 at the Rexville Black Rock Amphitheater, 19299 Rexville Grange Road, between Conway and La Conner. Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. More at shakesnw.org.

Edmonds Driftwood Players: Wade James Theatre, 950 Main St., Edmonds; www.edmondsdriftwoodplayers.org or 425-774-9600, option 3. Tickets for the 2016-17 season are on sale now. The thriller “Wait Until Dark” opens the season and plays Sept. 16-Oct. 2.

Phoenix Theatre: The comedy theater is at 9673 Firdale Ave., Edmonds; 206-533-2000 or www.phoenixtheatreedmonds.org. See “I’m Herbert and Other Short Plays,” directed by Molly Brusewitz, at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays, Aug. 19-28. Tickets range from $12 to $19. The production involves three stories about love at different ages: the newlyweds in “Here We Are” by Dorothy Parker, the elderly couple in “I’m Herbert” by Robert Anderson and two women in love with the same man in “Overtones” by Alice Gerstenberg. Tickets for the Phoenix 2016-17 season also are available now. The coming shows include “Moon Over Buffalo” and “Crossing Delancey.”

Anderlin Arts: Performances are at the Snohomish County PUD Auditorium, 2320 California, Everett; www.anderlinarts.org. “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” the musical comedy, plays Sept. 15-24.

“Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus”: The off-Broadway comedy is a one-man fusion of theater and stand-up comedy based on the best selling book by John Gray. See it at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett. Call 425-258-6766 for ticket information.

Red Curtain: Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts, a nonprofit arts education organization, plans to open a new arts center in Marysville on Oct. 1. The 2016-17 season at the Red Curtain Community Arts Center features “Arsenic and Old Lace” opening on Oct. 21, as well as “The Fantasticks,” “You Can’t Take It With You,” “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians,” “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Noises Off!” A fundraising auction also is set for Oct. 1.
