Musician Sarah Comer is a bit of a chip off the old block.
Comer began fiddling in 1999, but it took her dad, Emmett Comer, and his skill and renewed interest in the guitar to set Sarah on the path to being a first-class fiddler.
Recently, she became a certified champion Old Time Fiddler after taking first place at the Washington State Fiddlers Contest in the young adult division.
Sarah and Emmett Comer have played in Seattle at the Northwest Folklife Festival and Benaroya Hall and in shows and at festivals all over Washington.
Sarah Comer teaches private and group classes at Pierce College, is finishing work on her debut album, which is set for release early this fall, and plays in a new contra dance band, Swing Shift, with her father and pianist Karen Haas.
Sarah Comer will perform with her father as backup guitarist during a free folk concert at 2 p.m. Sunday at Everett Public Library, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett.
These concerts are presented by the Pacific Northwest Folklore Society and take place in the library’s lower-level auditorium, a venue the folklore society describes as a gem of an acoustic space that needs no electronic amplification.
