There are good birthday parties and then there are birthday parties where you get Death Cab for Cutie to play a free show for a couple thousand of your closest friends. The Paramount Theatre is going with the latter option to mark its 90th year.
On Saturday, June 23, Death Cab for Cutie will headline The Paramount 90th Anniversary Celebration. The event will be hosted by comedian and ex-Seattleite Hari Kondabolu, and will also feature performances by Khu.éex’, The Black Tones, and DJ Stas THEE Boss.
Tickets for the show will be given out via Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan system. Essentially, you sign in with a Ticketmaster account and are put into a random drawing for two tickets (it’s the same system used when Hamilton tickets go on sale). You can register anytime before this Friday, May 18 at 10 a.m. for your chance to snag free general admission seats.
Prior to the show, there will be an outdoor celebration from 5–8 p.m. on 9th Avenue that open to the public regardless of if you snagged a ticket for Death Cab. Hosted by Nancy Guppy, the outside party features SassyBlack Pride Showcase (local LGBTQIA performers), Lieu Quan Lion Dance Team, Apna Bhangra Crew, NW Tap Connection (with music by Shakiah Danielson and Levi Ware), Ten Man Brass Band, Seattle Kokon Taiko, and Seattle Women’s Steel Pan Project.
