The Decemberists have firmly established themselves as an indie rock group with serious literary credibility, writing lyrics based on English poetry and folk legends. However, their latest album, “The King is Dead,” which was released Tuesday instead finds its roots in American music and ’80s rock.
Band members Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query and John Moen are joined by Gillian Welch on several tracks. R.E.M.’s Peter Buck plays on three tracks.
They’re scheduled to perform Feb. 18 at the Paramount in Seattle. Tickets are available at stgpresents.org or 877-784-4849.
