Dine talk
Lively Langley
“Langley Gets Lively” will offer a delightful entree into August with a walk-about wine tasting, free cooking demonstrations, outdoor live music and gallery openings this weekend in Langley.
The opener will be Friday Night Flights, a walk about town tasting of fine wines from around the world, paired with hors d’ouevres and cheeses. Tickets allow for one tasting and one bite at each of the four locations and are $20. Proof of age is required. Participating venues are within an easy walking distance and include The Edgecliff Grill, The Fish Bowl, Prima Bistro and Chef’s Pantry. The event starts at any of the four locations at 4 p.m. today and continues to 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the lineup is:
Langley Cooks — cooking demonstrations at the brick courtyard behind the Chef’s Pantry (www.chefspantryonline.com):
1 p.m., Chef Joe Ricks of the Edgecliff prepares black bean polenta
2 p.m., cookbook author and chef Donna Leahy demos summer soups — chilled artichoke and dill, sweet corn and crab, and shrimp bisque
3 p.m., Leahy will continue with Chocolate Delights — Part 3.
Samples and demos are free; donations will benefit Northwest Harvest.
Live music from 1 to 4 p.m. at Island Angel Chocolates, outdoors on Frick Lane
First Saturday’s Art Walk starts at 5 p.m., featuring Langley’s Museo, Karlson/Gray and Whidbey Art galleries. Galleries will remain open until 8 p.m.
