It actually is 84 degrees somewhere in Snohomish County.

The Yost Pool in Edmonds opens Monday and boasts a water temperature of 84 degrees.

The pool is offering several new programs.

For the little ones, a new program called Pool Play gives your child the chance to play in the

water with lots of pool toys. Pool Play is geared for children 6 and younger and their parents.

For adults, Zumba classes are being offered this season. Zumba is a Latin-inspired exercise class normally done on the floor, but at Yost you can sign up for Aqua Zumba for a workout in the water taught by a certified Zumba instructor. Water shoes are required.

Also new this season is Pirate Camp, where the action is divided between water and nonwater events, such as hunting for treasure, walking the plank, diving for gold and creating pirate crafts. For ages 6 to 10.

Along with these new programs, Yost Pool is bringing back the annual Cannonball/Belly Flop Contest, which is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 8. There’s a $5 entry fee.

Yost also offers swim lessons. Registration is open now.

And, if you are an Edmonds resident, you get to enjoy the pool’s balmy temperatures even earlier.

Yost Pool will be open from 12:50 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. today and Sunday for free. You will need proof of residency. Canned food donations are being accepted for the Edmonds Food Bank.

“It’s supposed to be really nice this weekend so we thought we’d go ahead and open it up,” said Todd Cort, recreation coordinator for Edmonds Parks, Recreation & Cultural Services.
