KCTS TV (Channel 9) will feature an educational documentary, “Washington State Get the Dirt on Wine,” as the opening presentation of its “About Us” series at 10 p.m. Thursday. It will repeat at 4 a.m. Oct. 11.
“About Us” showcases independent filmmakers who have produced local stories that are distinctive to the Northwest.
“Get the Dirt on Wine” is about terroir – the influence that the environment has on each vineyard, the grapes, and ultimately the wine. It tells the story behind the labels, beginning with the end of the last great Ice Age and how events more than 10,000 years ago contributed to the award-winning wines produced in Washington today.
The documentary features Alan Busacca, soil scientist and geologist at Washington State University, and includes Amy Mumma, World Wine Program at Central Washington University and Andy Perdue, wine critic and editor of Wine Press NW magazine.
