Golden Unicorn

Lake Stevens Brewing, Lake Stevens

Style: Golden milk stout

Stats: 5.3 percent ABV, 23 IBU

Available: On nitro at the brewery

From the brewery: Treat your senses with this conundrum. Deceivingly full and smooth golden milk stout, conditioned on fresh ground dark roast coffee beans and served on creamy nitro.

It’s that time of year to dress up as someone other than yourself.

But Lake Stevens Brewing decided to make a costume for its latest beer. Lake Stevens Brewing head brewers Brock Duerr and Jason Parzyk created Golden Unicorn, a beer that may look like a pale ale but has a taste, aroma and feel that is far from usual. Instead, the beer tastes like a milk stout, with notes of roasted malts and coffee.

Golden Unicorn is a golden milk stout. Brewed with oats and malted barley and then conditioned on 4 pounds of organic dark-roast coffee, the beer has all the flavors of a robust coffee stout while looking like your favorite summer beer.

Try Golden Unicorn at Lake Stevens Brewing’s costume party from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 27 at the brewery. There will be a costume contest, beer specials, party games and more.
