I’ve received so many e-mails today from those of you outraged by the WIAA’s decision to uphold verdicts by the Cascade Conference and District 1 to end Archbishop Murphy’s season for using an ineligible player.
As I’ve said in many replies to those who wrote, it’s difficult to believe the powers that be got into their position of power if this is an example of their intellect and sense of fair play. Many of you have brought up past decisions by the WIAA that can be termed “questionable” at its most charitable definition.
My advice to all of you is to let them know your feelings. Write them. Call them. Their phone numbers and addresses are readily available through the Internet or through any school in your area.
Will it change their decision? Unlikely. But in letting them know your feelings, maybe there’s a slim chance that they will take more time and sensitivity with their future rulings.
Hey, it’s a shot — albeit a slim one.
To the players: You have been wronged, but it’s now in the rearview mirror. It is up to you to be the example. If it is within you, treat this ridiculous ruling with as much class as you can possibly muster. Coach Stubrud said you’re throwing your support to coach Dick Henderson and his remarkable girls soccer team. I applaud that. Turn this thing into something positive. Do it with class. Do it with love.
You’re better than the people who did this you. Show them.
