The 24th annual Taste of Edmonds kicks off today at Civic Playfield.
The delectable festival features three days of tasty tidbits, arts and crafts and live entertainment.
Through Sunday, visitors of the Greater Edmonds Chamber of Commerce-sponsored event can sample everything from exotic treats to fair food favorites at more than 40 food booths while perusing more than 70 vendor booths offering original hand-crafted works including jewelry, art and pottery.
Children can bounce on inflatables, take a pony ride or participate in free craft activities.
Four stages provide continuous entertainment throughout the weekend. Some of this year’s acts include The Afrodisiacs, Darren Motamedy and Grupo Son Trio.
The first Edmonds Idol Contest is from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday on the Main Stage, followed by a performance from rock ‘n’ roll guitarist Rick Derringer.
Derringer, formerly with Johnny Winter and The McCoys, will perform his No. 1 hit “Hang on Sloopy” and the 1973 single “Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo.”
On the Kid Stage, children’s entertainers Buck &Elizabeth, Tim Noah and Fred Penner entertain. Additional children’s activities include Reptile Isle and children’s karaoke.
Additional activities at this year’s festival include visits from Miss Washington USA and Miss Washington Teen USA contestants between noon and 2 p.m. Saturday. The Win Your Way In Poker Tournament is from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the beer garden. Players compete for a chance to play in the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas.
Two unofficial high school reunions take place at this year’s festival. Meadowdale High School’s class of 1976 can begin their 30-year celebration at 4 p.m. today. Edmonds High School class of 1986’s party is at 2 p.m. Saturday. Both celebrations are in the beer garden.
A free shuttle runs every 15 minutes beginning at 11 a.m. today from Edmonds-Woodway High School to the festival entrance on Seventh Avenue.
Organizers request visitors leave pets at home.
Coupeville Arts &Crafts Festival: The annual Historic Coupeville Arts &Crafts Festival is Saturday and Sunday on the waterfront.
Art, crafts, entertainment, food and children’s activities are the highlights at this year’s festival.
More than 200 arts and crafts vendors sell wares including sculpture, metalwork, leather goods and handcrafted furniture.
Some of the musicians performing on the outdoor stage at this year’s festival are Miles From Chicago, Alice Stuart and Indigo Soul.
Many children’s activities take place at Ebey’s Landing National Historic Reserve.
Festival proceeds will be donated to community service projects.
