Edmonds ballet school wins top honors at competition

Olympic Ballet School won the Outstanding School Award and top placements at the Youth America Grand Prix regional competition.

Students of Olympic Ballet School in Edmonds received multiple top placements in solo and ensemble performance categories at the Youth America Grand Prix Seattle regional competition February at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

In addition, the school, co-directed by the husband-and-wife team of Oleg Gorboulev and Mara Vinson, was named Outstanding School among schools from in Washington, California, Arizona, Utah and Oregon.

Here are other winners from Olympic Ballet School:

CLASSICAL DANCE CATEGORY/SENIOR DIVISION: Shoshana Scott, 16, tie for second place.

CLASSICAL DANCE CATEGORY/JUNIOR DIVISION: Isabella Carbajal, 13, third place.

CLASSICAL DANCE CATEGORY/JUNIOR DIVISION (males): Yevgeni Gorboulev, 14, first place.

CLASSICAL DANCE CATEGORY/PRE-COMPETITIVE DIVISION: Hikari Ulyana Gorbouleva, 10, second place.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE CATEGORY/PRE-COMPETITIVE DIVISION: Hikari Ulyana Gorbouleva, second place.

LARGE ENSEMBLES: Olympic Ballet School’s “Garland Waltz,” Olympic Ballet School’s “Brides,” and Olympic Ballet School’s “Nyman,” tie for first place.

SMALL ENSEMBLES: Kaeli Pierce, 16, and Yevgeni Gorboulev, 14, in the Pas de deux from Grand Pas Classique, second place.

Dancers as young as 9 can compete in YAGP, which provides scholarships and potential placement at top ballet schools in the world. Hikari Ulyana Gorbouleva,, Isabelle Carbajal, Yevgeni Gorboulev, Kaeli Pierce and Anna Foy, as well as all three ensemble pieces that Olympic Ballet School entered, received invitations to compete in YAGP Finals in Tampa, Florida, in April.
