When a whole community gets certified as a backyard wildlife habitat, that calls for a celebration.
Edmonds will host a free Watershed Fun Fair and certification celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 24 at Yost Park.
Visitors will find nature crafts, activities for kids and adults, speakers, guided walks, entertainment, face painting, free refreshments and an “all species” parade.
Yost Park is at 9535 Bowdoin Way.
You can learn about certifying your own back yard as a wildlife habitat too. The event is co- sponsored by the Edmonds Backyard Wildlife Habitat Project and the National Wildlife Federation. For information go to www.edmondsbackyardwildlifehabitat.org or call 425-672-2150.
On April 25, you can see a public wildlife habitat that helped earn Edmonds the distinction at the grand opening of the Willow Creek Wildlife Habitat and Native Plant Demonstration Garden from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The garden is next to the Fish Hatchery, 95 Pine St.
Five local residential gardens, including a condo garden, will also be open to the public for self-guided tours from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. April 25 in conjunction with the event, sponsored by the Pilchuck Audubon Society.
Tour maps will be available at the fun fair on April 24 or at the demonstration garden on April 25.
