The Breaking Point Dance Company of Edmonds and Cory Winget of Oak Harbor didn’t exactly win the top slot at “Showtime at the Apollo On Tour” like they had hoped to in Seattle last weekend.
That honor went to R&B vocalist Jordon Bolden, 11, of Renton, who will perform in New York City during Amateur Night at the world-famous home base of the show, the Apollo Theater.
But the two local acts’ Feb. 11 performances before a crowd of more than 1,700 at the Paramount Theatre did bear some fruit.
The Breaking Point Dance Company was invited to perform at a special dance segment at the Apollo, where they will be part of a filmed and televised show on NBC later this year, said Virginia Piper of the Seattle Theatre Group.
As for Winget, he was thrilled about his experience, doing his trademark beat boxing and singing before the large crowd.
“The show went great,” he said. “I have never had a response like that in my life. They were singing and dancing. No boos whatsoever. It was the best.”
