The fifth annual spring gardening festival returns to downtown Edmonds today and Sunday in Old Milltown shopping mall, on Fifth Avenue between Dayton and Maple streets.
Festival activities include an opportunity for children to plant a pot of flowers for their mothers, arts and crafts activities and a treasure hunt at local businesses for kids.
Today only, the first 135 children to plant a pot of flowers will be eligible to build a free birdhouse at Wilcox Construction.
Arista Wine Cellars will host wine tastings both afternoons.
Flowers for this year’s festival are being grown by the students of Lynnwood High School’s horticulture class.
A donation of $5 for small pots and $10 for large pots is requested for planting flowers. Cost includes the flowers, a gift bag decorated by participating Girl Scouts and a free ticket to one of three Sunday matinees of “The Rugrats Go Wild” at the Edmonds Theater. Free popcorn will be given out during matinees.

Artists and craftspeople on Vashon Island open their studios to the public for the island’s annual Art Studio Tour, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and Sunday and May 8 and 9.
More than 80 artists and craftspeople from 28 studios and group shows, plus five shops and galleries are participating. Types of art include jewelry, blown glass and garden art.
Some artists will be offering demonstration during the tour.

Today and Sunday, a traditional powwow will be held at Edmonds Community College, 20000 68th Ave. W., Lynnwood.
The 18th annual celebration of American Indian culture features educational events, traditional dance, and drum circles from tribes throughout the Northwest.
The best times to see dancers and drummers are 1 and 7 p.m. today and 1 p.m. tomorrow. Performances are free.
A blood and bone marrow drive will also take place 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at the powwow for two American Indian youth in need of transplants.
