Edmonds in Bloom

The fifth annual spring gardening festival returns to downtown Edmonds today and Sunday in Old Milltown shopping mall, on Fifth Avenue between Dayton and Maple streets.

Festival activities include an opportunity for children to plant a pot of flowers for their mothers, arts and crafts activities and a treasure hunt at local businesses for kids.

Today only, the first 135 children to plant a pot of flowers will be eligible to build a free birdhouse at Wilcox Construction.

Arista Wine Cellars will host wine tastings both afternoons.

Flowers for this year’s festival are being grown by the students of Lynnwood High School’s horticulture class.

A donation of $5 for small pots and $10 for large pots is requested for planting flowers. Cost includes the flowers, a gift bag decorated by participating Girl Scouts and a free ticket to one of three Sunday matinees of “The Rugrats Go Wild” at the Edmonds Theater. Free popcorn will be given out during matinees.

Edmonds In Bloom hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
