Edmonds Waterfront Fest and other weekend ideas

Party on the water: The Edmonds Waterfront Festival is Friday through Sunday at the Port of Edmonds Marina. For kids, the entertainment includes a climbing wall, giant slide, inflatable rides and pony rides. For adults, there’s a beer a garden and a classic yacht show; $3 admission, free for ages 10 and younger. Read more about it here.

Beautify the boulevard: Help plant 40,000 colorful annuals this Saturday 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. as part of the annual Mukilteo Boulevard planting at Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett. Gloves, trowels, refreshments and commemorative buttons will be provided. Read more about it here.

Rock: The Everett Rock &Gem Club’s annual Gem, Jewelry and Mineral Show runs Saturday and Sunday at the Everett Soccer Arena, 2201 California St. Check out displays of fossils, exotic shells, beads and pearls, handmade jewelry, minerals and stone artwork. Have a taste: Sample the cooking of Whidbey Island’s top chefs at Taste of Whidbey 2012 on Sunday. Buy a ticket for $25 and fill up on 10 tastes of food, wine or beer. Get the details here.

Beer and brats: Enjoy both from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at the “Commons” at Terry’s Corner on Camano Island. There’ll be live music, beer and wine tasting, vendors and children’s activities. Read more about it here.

Hit the trails: Looking for somewhere to take a hike? Find one that suits your fitness level (or lack thereof) in our hiking guide.

Mini-thunder on the water: Watch mini hydroplane races and receive a pit pass to see boats up-close. Food, ice cream and snacks will be available for purchase. The event is free and runs Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. Silver Lake, 11405 W. Silver Lake Road, Everett. Info at www.everettwa.org/parks.

Get ready to Get Movin’: Get Movin’, the free summer activity program for kids and their families, kicks off this year with free registration events from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Everett’s Forest Park, Alderwood mall, Monroe High School and Allen Creek Elementary in Marysville. Children who meet the weekly activity goal of being active for at least an hour five times a week can qualify for prizes such as free passes for swimming, using the climbing wall at REI, ice skating, and dance and gymnastic lessons.
