The King of Rock would have been 76 years old Saturday.
Some believe Elvis Presley may still be alive, hidden away, celebrating his birthday. For the rest of us, Seattle-based Elvis impersonator Danny Vernon will put on his blue suede shoes and rock the Historic Everett Theatre.
He will be joined by the DeVilles for a night of “The Illusion of Elvis.” Don’t worry, this show will feature a young, svelt, hip-swaying Elvis, not a septuagenarian. It will be a whole lot of Graceland right here in Everett.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Everett Theatre, 911 Colby Ave., Everett.
Tickets are $15 general; $12 for students, seniors or military. Buy them at the box office, 2911 Colby Ave., at www.etix.com or by calling 425-258-6766.
It’s too limiting, I think, to call Pearl Django a gypsy jazz group. Yes, they fit the genre, but really are much more.
The Tacoma band, now celebrating 16 years of playing together, throws in some bluegrass, a bit of soul and blues.
Influenced heavily by the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, the band also plays its own compositions.
It’s one of the busiest bands on the club scene and has toured the world. Band members include Troy Chapman and Ryan Hoffman on guitar, Rick Leppanen on bass, Michael Gray on violin and David Lange on accordion. Special guest guitarist Martin Taylor will join the band.
Catch Pearl Django through Sunday at Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley at 7:30 and 9:30 tonight and Saturday, 7:30 only Sunday; Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, 2033 Sixth Ave., Seattle.
Tickets are $23.50 at www.jazzalley.com or 206-441-9729.
