Emory’s on Silver Lake wins another Wine Spectator award

EVERETT — The 2017 Wine Spectator restaurant awards were released earlier this week, and the only Snohomish County business selected for the honor was Emory’s on Silver Lake.

The Everett restaurant has been an Award of Excellence winner since 2014.

Wine Spectator’s recognition program is one of the nation’s most prominent wine awards in the restaurant industry, said local wine writer and sommelier Owen Bargreen.

The August issue of the magazine features the winners.

Serving Pacific Northwest cuisine, Emory’s offers a list of 160 Washington, Oregon and California wines noted for fine quality and inexpensive prices.

“I can vouch for this award as Emory’s offers some of the best wine prices and selections north of Seattle,” Bargreen said. “Whether it is an inexpensive glass of Washington chardonnay or a world class Napa cabernet, Emory’s has you covered for wine.

“Cheers to wine director Gary Michaels and owners Emory and Molly Cole.”

Good value-priced bottles (in the $50 range) at Emory’s include the 2013 Tranche “Slice of Pape” Blanc, the 2014 Twomey Sauvignon Blanc, the 2012 Duckhorn Merlot and the 2012 Rulo “Orb” Red Wine, Bargreen said.

“For a special occasion, Emory’s offers the 2004 Dom Perignon Champagne, the absolutely awesome 2013 Woodward Canyon ‘Artist Series’ Cabernet, as well as the enticing 2012 DeLille ‘Four Flags” Cabernet,’ he said.

Chef Peter Ryan and Emory’s general manager Robert Frost also were recognized for the moderately priced cuisine served at the restaurant.

The restaurant Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine offers proof that the restaurant is credible, editors said. These award-winning restaurants typically offer at least 90 selections, and a well-chosen assortment of quality producers along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style.

More information about the awards is available at restaurants.winespectator.com, including videos of what to expect at a Wine Spectator award-winning restaurant and how to order wine.

The Herald’s restaurant review from 2009 gave the restaurant four thumbs up. While the menu has changed, Emory’s still offers a good balance of surf and turf on its dinner menu. And with wines to match.
