By the time you read this, I will be mother to a newborn baby boy.
That means I’ll be on maternity leave for about four months.
In my stead, my wonderful co-worker — reporter Krista Kapralos — has offered to serve as guest Eco Geek, sharing all the best of local, regional and national green-scene news in my absence.
I hope you keep visiting the blog. Krista has her own take on the green movement to share and I’m sure it will be interesting.
Krista was raised in Oregon by her herbalist mother, who teaches to this day that home-made echinacea tinctures are the antidote of choice for coughs, sniffles and all manner of life’s ills. Krista was taught that whatever can be admired in a magazine can be made at home – for a fraction of the price, and usually using goods you already own. Today, Krista eats eggs hatched in her mother’s suburban, clandestine mini-farm, while laughing at how much some people pay for clothing made from reclaimed wool.
That all sounds pretty great to me! Watch this space for Krista’s Eco Geek posts and stay in touch. I’ll be checking in now and then, posting, by way of Krista, with musings on my attempts at green parenting.
In the fall, I’ll be thrilled to dive back full-time into Eco Geekiness with, surely, a renewed sense of urgency as I begin to raise a child in this crazy, not-so-green world
