“The Wind in the Willows”: Ah, to be “simply messing about in boats.”
So says the warm-hearted Ratty, who enjoys his river and all the natural world.
Ratty shares the river along with the many adventures that occur there with his friends Mole, Badger and Toad in the children’s classic “The Wind and the Willows.”
Along the way, these anthropomorphized critters learn lessons, which they will share as the Whidbey Children’s Theatre’s professional adult troupe, Stories on Stage, brings the story to life.
The WCT production adapted from the timeless Kenneth Grahame story follows the riverbank characters through a series of vignettes that include Toad’s trip to prison.
Director Martha Murphy plays Mole and she is joined on stage by Max Cole-Takanikos as Toad, Jill Johnson who plays Badger and Kent Junge as Ratty.
This two-act musical adaptation, with musical direction by Katie Woodzick, includes some audience participation. The 12 performances include three family shows with discount pricing.
“Wind in the Willows” opens at 7:30 tonight at Whidbey Children’s Theatre, 222 Anthes Ave., Langley.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19, 25, 26, Oct. 2, 3 and at 2 p.m. Sept. 19, 20, 26, 27, Oct. 3, 4. Tickets are $12, $8 and $7 for family shows, available at the door or by calling 360-221-2282.
