Musicians with Grammy and Dove awards, No. 1 hits, spots in music halls of fame and songwriter of the year praises will perform this week at the Evergreen State Fair in Monroe.
Audio Adrenaline, Pam and Mel Tillis, Blue Oyster Cult, Raven Symone, Phil Vassar and Sara Evans are the stars in the fair’s line-up.
Audio Adrenaline: The quartet has four Grammy nominations and multiple Dove awards, and 17 No. 1 singles. “Big House” was named contemporary christian music song of the decade for the 1990s.
The band performs Sunday with music from its latest album, “Worldwide,” still focusing on themes of mission and faith, although this time with more of an edge.
Pam and Mel Tillis: Daughter and father bring many decades of experience to the stage Monday. Mel Tillis, in the Nashville Songwriters International Hall of Fame, has won Country Music Association’s entertainer of the year and an album of the year for his first gospel album, “Beyond the Sunset.”
CMA’s female vocalist of the year Pam Tillis has also earned a Grammy. Her songs have been covered by Chaka Khan, Highway 101 and Conway Twitty. Her first No. 1 hit was “Don’t Tell Me What to Do.”
Blue Oyster Cult: The 1970s’ stadium rockers made VH1’s countdown of the greatest hard-rock bands of all time. They’ll perform Tuesday.
Think of their signature songs “(Don’t Fear) the Reaper,” “Godzilla” and “Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll.”
Raven Symone: The adorable Olivia from “The Cosby Show” and Nicole in “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper” is all grown up, with a career in addition to her acting credits.
She had a hit single when she was 5 (“That’s What Little Girls Are Made Of”) and has toured with N’ Sync for her CD “Undeniable.” She’ll perform Wednesday.
Raven (sometimes appearing as Raven-Symone in credits) also appeared as Eddie Murphy’s rebellious daughter in “Dr. Doolittle.”
Phil Vassar and Sara Evans: The two will take the stage Thursday, closing down the grandstand music portion of the fair’s entertainment schedule.
Vassar has been twice named country songwriter of the year by ASCAP and earned top new male vocalist honors from the Academy of Country Music.
His songs have been covered by Collin Raye (“Little Red Rodeo”), Alan Jackson (“Right on the Money”), Tim McGraw (“For a Little While”) and Jo Dee Messina (“Bye Bye” and “I’m Alright”).
At age 5, Evans was singing with her family band every weekend, and recording at age 11. Her debut CD in 1997 was “Three Chords and the Truth,” which made many critics’ best-of lists. Evans’ hits have included the No. 1 song “Born to Fly” and “I Keep Looking.”
