  • 2 p.m. Jan. 1: Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell exchange witty patter as former husband and wife, in “His Girl Friday, “while he tries to keep her from marrying her new beau; $8.
  • 4 p.m. Jan. 1: Audrey Hepburn falls in love with Gary Grant as a string of her late husband’s friends try to off her. But how does Gary fit in? $8.
  • Wednesday Classic Movies: See an oldie but a goodie at 7 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday at the Galaxy Monroe 1 Galaxy Way, Monroe; 360-863-0909; $7.

  • Jan. 11:
  • “South Pacific”: Mitzi Gaynor and Rossano Brazi starred in this 1958 musical, adapted from the Broadway show by Rodgers and Hammerstein. The famous songtrack include “Some Enchanted Evening,” “I’m Going Wash That Man Right Outta My Hair,” “Bloody Mary,” “There is Nothing Like a Dame” and “Younger Than Springtime.”

  • Jan. 25:
  • “The African Queen”: Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn team up under the direction of John Huston in this 1951 film set in World War I Africa, when missionary Rose Sayer persuades the drunken boat captain Charlie Allnut to use his boat to attack an enemy ship.

  • Feb. 8:
  • “The Sound of Music”: Based on a memoir about the real Von Trapp family, this is the story of a postulant who leaves the convent to be a governess for a widower with seven children during the rise of the Nazis in Austria. Julie Andrews stars in this iconic 1965 musical with songs like “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” “Do-Re-Mi” and “Climb Every Mountain.”

  • Feb. 22: “From Here to Eternity.”
  • March 14: “An American in Paris.”
  • March 28: “To Kill a Mockingbird.”

    Pacific Science Center’s Imax films: 200 Second Ave. N., Seattle; 206-443-2001; www.pacsci.org. Most tickets are $6 to $10.50. Shows run Dec. 16 through 22. Call ahead; some shows sell out. The Eames IMAX Theater is closed for renovations.

  • “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol”:

    Curly Tops Cypress (Chamaecyparis pisfiera), a modern version of the old Boulevard Cypress, is one I chose years ago and still enjoy. Great blue color and interesting twisted needles add texture to boot. This is a smaller grower, maturing to perhaps 10-feet tall and 8-feet wide, but it will take some shearing if needed.
