Special programs accompany several features. Festival organizers say teachers from Sponge, a Seattle-area foreign language center, will introduce vocabulary words and other concepts before the Venezuelan film “Y Por Que” (11 a.m. Jan. 31), as well as before the Mexican film, “El Relato de Sean Brennan” (3 p.m. Jan. 31), in the hopes of enhancing viewers’ experiences.
“We made a concentrated effort to reach out to filmmakers throughout Latin America and Spain this year, and we had really good results in getting short films,” festival director Elizabeth Shepherd said.
Tucked around the cinematic fun are other events, including a pancake breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Central Lutheran Church, 1710 11th Ave., Seattle. The Red Eagle Soaring Native Youth Theatre Group will perform after the breakfast.
“We have always had an interest in doing multimedia programs, especially programs that have combined film and music,” Shepherd said.
Most film tickets cost $6 to $9. For pancake breakfast and other fees, call Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006.
