Edmonds’ Celtic band Watch the Sky! and folk musician John Pfaff will launch the second Friday music series tonight in Everett.

A partnership of KSER Radio (90.7 FM), Flying Pig Brewing Co. and Puget’s Sound Productions, the series features Snohomish County and north Seattle musicians in an all-ages, smoke-free environment.

Watch the Sky! is Jan Elliott-Glanister, Chris Glanister and Joe Wagner. The trio plays traditional instruments including the bodhran, dumbek, whistle, guitar, cittern and mandolin. Expect songs of the British Isles, maritime songs and original melodies.

Classically trained musician Jon Pfaff was founder of the Talismen Trio in the early 1960s and the Runcible Spoons in the late 1990s. He’s also appeared as the founder of the Halibutts, a male trio singing songs of sea and fish.

Seattle Symphony: Gerard Schwarz celebrates his 20th season as music director and his passion for 20th century music with a season-opening concert Saturday. The night includes “Jubilee Variations,” music written by several American composers.

The symphony also will perform Brahms’ “Adagio” and selections from Ravel, Verdi, Mozart and others. The evening also features tenor Vinson Cole, soprano Jane Eaglen and others.

Crooked Jades: It’s worth the trip to Seattle on Saturday just to see one of the best of the new generation of string bands (not to mention the collection of vintage and eclectic instruments). Crooked Jades has set out to re-invent old-time music, and it’s easy to get caught up in their efforts. The band lets loose hard-driving dance tunes as well as ballads while emphasizing music from 1880 to 1930. Its latest album is “The Unfortunate Rake, Vol. 2: Yellow Mercury.”

My Sinatra: Close your eyes and only one face will appear when Cary Hoffman entertains Sunday in Seattle with songs made popular by Frank Sinatra.

Hoffman’s “My Sinatra, the Songs and the Stories” was a public television special in 2003, and this year will be rebroadcast on about three dozen stations.
