Changing hands: With the economy slumping, you may be wondering where all the money went.
One Web site helps you find out, sort of.
At www.wheresgeorge.com, you can track the movement of a bill as it changes hands. Members of the site stamp bills with the Web address. When a new person gets the bill, he or she can visit the site, input its serial number and see where it’s been.
The site only works when people enter data, of course.
We checked on one bill in our wallet. It earned three entries in 15 months time. It started being tracked in September 2007, in Gresham, Ore. Almost a full year later, a Denny’s server in Redmond said it turned up as part of a tip. Lastly, we got it as change at the Sno-Isle Natural Foods Co-Op. In all, it traveled 172 miles in one year and 92 days.
