FourSquare isn’t just for squares!

I don’t mean to speak for the entire group here at Midday Snacks, but we’re kind of a nerdy bunch.

Today’s nerdy nugget, however, is for a special kind of nerd class: Yes, all you Social Media Ubernerds, it’s time to check out FourSquare if you haven’t already.

It’s a site that allows you to “check in” to various venues and places around town using your mobile device. And its super fun when you’re doing a lot of stuff, especially eating out or traveling a lot.

Instead of jumping onto Facebook to write a cheesy status update about your adventures, you simply, “check in” through your FourSquare app on your phone, which also includes advice about what else is in the area and tips for making the most of where you are right at that moment. (It also posts your check-in to Facebook and your Twitterfeed, if you enable it to do so.)

Here’s the best part: If you visit certain places often enough you can become a location’s “mayor”!
