Think green and hope for spring.
While continuing their environmental focus, which, since last year, has involved Community Transit and others, Snohomish’s 2009 GroundFrog Day organizers added a twist for this year.
Pint-sized season “frognosticator” Snohomish Slew is going to “get the jump” on Punxsutawney Phil, the weather-predicting groundhog in Pennsylvania, as officials moved the local event to Saturday, instead of the usual Feb. 2.
The change also was made “to keep the event on a weekend so that the ceremony could be attended by area kids and their families,” Snohomish Chamber of Commerce manager Pam Osborne said.
The fun at Ferguson Park’s National Guard Armory building, 1330 Ferguson Park Road in Snohomish, lasts from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with 11:30 a.m. set for Slew’s prediction.
Entertainer Tim Noah, J.D. the D.J. from local band Catch the Beat, Tad the Kla Ha Ya Days mascot and Community Transit’s OxyGene will make appearances.
Kids can sit in Community Transit’s new doubledeck bus, as well as a Fire District 4 fire engine. They can look at Snohomish County Search and Rescue’s Hovercraft, learn about protecting frogs and their environment and admire part of the Guinness Book of World Records’ largest frog collection.
Adults will find information on windows, siding and solar panels among the booths set up as part of the “Be Bright — Go Green” focus.
