You can sit down to a meal of hush puppies, mini oyster po’boys, red beans and rice, collard greens and seafood jambalaya with andouille sausage. You can dance to Dixieland jazz and wear a Mardi Gras mask.
You don’t even have to travel to New Orleans, just to Snohomish on Saturday for The Monroe Arts Council’s “Arty Gras,” a Cajun-inspired event that combines an art auction, sit-down dinner, dance and costume-contest extravaganza.
About 120 art items will be auctioned. Guests can also participate in a live auction for items that include an African safari and a garden makeover.
Visit the Art Merchant International Building, 17161 Beaton Road SE, Monroe, through Thursday for a peek at the art to be auctioned.
Proceeds from Arty Gras will help pay for about $50,000 in renovations to the Frank Wagner Auditorium in Monroe to accommodate community theater, school shows and concerts.
Arty Gras starts at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Echo Falls Golf Club, 20414 121st Ave SE, Snohomish. Tickets are $65 per person. For tickets or more information call 360-794-7844 or go to www.monroeartscouncil.org.
