Eating local can seem like a daunting challenge, especially if you’re new to the whole thing and don’t know where to start.
Fortunately, the “2009 Puget Sound Fresh Farm Guide” is out now and ready to point you in the right direction.
This free 36-page bible of local food finds is published every spring by the nonprofit Cascade Harvest Coalition of Seattle and this year it’s better than ever with increased participation by local farms, high-quality paper and sharper graphics.
Get the goods on 160 farms and farmers markets, plus farm stands, u-pick operations and CSAs in a 12-county Puget Sound region.
Look for the guides now at local libraries, county conservation districts, farmers markets, farm stands, farms and community celebrations throughout the region.
If you’re more digitally inclined, you can check out the entire guide in PDF format here or simply browse the robust and searchable Puget Sound Fresh Web site, which allows users to search by crop, farm type and region.
Online, you’ll also find a newsletter about what’s in season, a searchable database of recipes featuring seasonal ingredients, a guide for signing up for local CSAs as well as lists of restaurants, grocers, cooking schools and festivals focused on local food.
Did I mention this is all free?
