Recycling is a good thing, but recycling for a good cause is even better, right?
If you’re still hanging on to your old wedding gown and don’t have big plans for it, don’t let it waste away and yellow in some dark closet. Donate it to the Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, which is holding a new and used gown sale this weekend in Snohomish as part of the town’s annual Kla Ha Ya Days celebration.
The Portland-based foundation’s Brides Against Breast Cancer program accepts gowns, veils and slips from 1995 to present that are in good condition. They also ask for a $10 cash donation to cover the expense of preparing the gown for resale, including cleaning and minor repairs. They use the proceeds from gown sales nationwide to grant wishes to women diagnosed with terminal breast cancer.
Brides-to-be can shop from about 500 new and used gowns and former brides can donate their old gowns for future sales from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. July 20-22 at the Waltz Building, 116 Avenue B, Snohomish.
If you miss the event, you can mail your donation to Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, 12708 SE Stephens St., Portland, OR 97233. You can also call 503-829-4486 for more information.
