Wired has a set of gorgeous photos of glaciers taken by astronauts and satellites, including this one of Mount Rainier. “On its eastern slope,” Wired writes, Rainier “hosts Emmons Glacier, the largest glacier in the lower 48 states. … And though it last erupted in 1840, it is considered the most hazardous volcano in the country, in part because of the risk of flooding from melting glaciers in the event of an eruption.” Yikes.
