EVERETT — It’s been awhile since Stan and Colleen Price hosted an art show at Covenant Art Glass on Broadway.

It was their employees who urged them to produce the show, Colleen said. A call to participate was put out to their customers and Stan’s students.

“Art on Broadway” will be displayed June 10-28 at the couple’s shop-studio-gallery.

“We are delighted with the 70 art glass pieces to be shown,” Colleen said.

Covenant Art Glass has been around since 1979. At the time, Stan, a young master glass artist, had just left his job at the prestigious Pilchuck Glass School near Stanwood to start his own business.

Today, Stan Price is a winner (2006) of a Snohomish County (now Schack) Artist of the Year award and a winner (2014) of an Everett Mayor’s Arts award. He teaches, sells glass supplies and produces his own artwork, which often includes Northwest marine life as a subject.

Art needs to tell a story, Stan has always told his friends. Because his students produced much of the work, many pieces will evoke an emotional response from the viewer.

Those who attend will see traditional stained glass, a variety of fused glass pieces, stunning glass lamps, eclectic mosaics and mixed-media pieces made by beginners as well as advanced artists.

The show has been judged by glass experts Matt and Missy Laitala, and prizes will be awarded, Colleen said. “In addition, there will be a People’s Choice award, so we hope many people will come to choose their favorite piece.”

One customer who recently dropped off her show entry asked Colleen how many projects had been created at Covenant Art Glass over the years.

“I don’t really have an answer, but surely it is thousands,” Colleen said.

In recent years, the Prices have hosted an annual show of Tiffany-style lamps created in their lamp workshop.

“But we haven’t really done a show like ‘Art on Broadway’ for many years,” Colleen said. “That is why everyone is so excited about this event.”

If you go

“Art on Broadway” at Covenant Art Glass opens with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the shop, 3232 Broadway. The show then runs during regular business hours through June 28. Some pieces will be offered for sale.
