Outdoor fun might just be what the family is craving, especially since a few sunny days have edged their way through Western Washington recently,

But even if chilly air is still on the Sound, bundle up and take a trip along the Washington coastline with Mosquito Fleet as they offer a look at the gray whale migration.

Gray whale migration: Mosquito Fleet boat departs from Everett at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through April 15. $25 to $29; $12.50 to $14.50 for children through age 11, when booked three days before sailing. 800-888-2535, www.whalewatching.com.

Tacoma Dome Boat Show: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 31 and April 1, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 2 at the Tacoma Dome. $9, $7 seniors 62 and older. Children 6 and younger get in free when accompanied by an adult.

Charity basketball game: 6 p.m. Sunday, Kamiak High School, 10801 Harbour Pointe Blvd., Mukilteo. Advance tickets are $15, $10 youth at Kamiak or www.Ticketswest.com. Cost at the door is $20, $15 youth.

Hops on Equinox: 5 to 11 p.m. today, 1 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion. $20 general admission, $15 advance (souvenir cup and 6 tastes). $30 pre-event Scotch tasting from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, tickets at www.ticketweb.com. $10 Scotch tasting at event (flight of four single malt Scotches). $8 designated driver/non-drinking admission, get free soda and water samples. $25 Jackson Special (souvenir cup and 11 tastes). Happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. Friday and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday: three extra tasting tickets. 206-633-0422, www.washingtonbrewfest.com.

“Cinderella Kids”: Kidstage presentation at 7 p.m. today and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday at Stanwood High School Performing Arts Center. $5. 425-257-8600.

Close to 20,000 gray whales pass along our coastline as they return from breeding grounds in the warmer waters of Mexico, to the coast of Alaska. They can measure more than 40 feet in length and some weigh as much as 40 tons.

The boat Orca Song departs from Everett on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through April 15 and cruises for more than two hours. Guests can view the gray whales and other marine wildlife.

If getting out on the water makes you think, “Mmmm, a boat of my own would be nice…” (and you missed the recent show here), then pack up the family and head south for the 2006 Tacoma Dome Boat Show.

There is fun for everyone with a spotlight on a line of pontoon houseboats, an expanded boat show galley with maritime-theme artwork and diving pigs.

More than 500 boats including family cruisers, kayaks, canoes, fishing boats and runabouts will be at the show Wednesday through April 2.

If the weather is sad and soppy, then head indoors for a fun family event at Kamiak High School in Mukilteo.

James Edwards, former NBA player, and Chester Dorsey, former UW All-Star, will coach teams during the Streetballers vs. Tacoma charity basketball game at 6 p.m. Sunday.

This event is for all ages and a portion of the proceeds will go to the youth basketball program “On the Ball,” an organization that provides sports equipment and personal training to youth in the community.

If going it alone without the kids is a priority this weekend, then hop on over to the Hops on Equinox today and Saturday at the Seattle Center Fisher Pavilion.

This event is billed as “Not Just a Beer Festival Anymore.” No kidding. This new delight is a Scotch-tasting garden where aficionados and novices can partake in their favorite beers but can also sniff and sip single malt, blends and vatted Scotch. Drinks will be paired with gourmet palette-cleansing foods from Barking Dog Alehouse.

Learn how Scotch is produced and why it’s called the aqua vitae, or “water of life,” in Scotland, from a master of Scotch who will be on hand to answer questions.

There’s something for everyone when Stanwood Ensemble presents “Cinderella Kids,” a Kidstage event, this weekend in Stanwood.

This timeless fairy tale, captured in the book by Marcy Heisler, includes classic Disney music such as “Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo” and “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.”
