Think of this event as antiques road show meets art sale.
Add in a farmer’s market, food and wine and a festive atmosphere and you’ve got the first-ever Artist’s Yard Sale at Camano Commons.
Like any yard sale, bargains are to be had and treasures are there for the finding, said Doris Platis.
“This is directed at the bargain hunter and treasure seeker,” Platis said.
Platis is director of Gallery in the Loft, sponsor of the yard sale. The gallery is in the Brindles Marketplace building at Camano Commons, also known as Terry’s Corner.
“Visitors will get fantastic deals,” Platis said. “And anything from the gallery will be really, really reduced.”
Participating artists will bring their excess inventory and their seconds, and collectors will bring in items, once loved but now ready for recycling.
Tents and tables will be filled with “recycled” art, originals, proofs, prints and supplies, including artist’s equipment and tools. Visitors can scan pottery, metal work, computer art, photography, fabric art and watercolor for just the right item. A travel agent is bringing in artifacts collected from around the world, Platis said.
The sale will be outside, rain or shine, with food available, a wine tasting and a farmer’s market selling organic produce. About 30 vendors will be on site.
Part of the proceeds from the yard sale will go toward a scholarship for a deserving local art student.
Platis said she didn’t have a model for the yard sale but is taking advantage of the fact that Art by the Bay is the same weekend.
“It’s an effort to make Camano Island a true arts destination,” Platis said. “We’re planting a tiny seed this year and we hope that it blooms into an annual event.”
