At last, the sweet taste of victory. To be more precise, a Seattle Seahawks NFC Conference victory.
Being an avid football fan, I can remember cheering for the Hawks at a young age (I, too, was born in 1976). My dad and I would sit for hours watching football games on Sundays. He took me to see my first NFL game between the Seahawks and the 49ers sometime around the last time Seattle won a postseason game in 1984. During those years, I grew to love the sport. I especially grew to love the Seahawks.
Along with many others, I can’t afford the $10,000 to $20,000 trip for two to Superbowl XL in Detroit. I decided instead to head to the Pro Shop at Qwest Field the morning after the team clinched the championship title to pick up some gear in preparation for next Sunday’s big game.
The Pro Shop is the place to find all the official NFL Seahawks gear any “12th Man” could want, including player jerseys, toys and gear for children and souvenirs. The supply is diverse, plentiful and restocked often. Although G.I. Joe’s and JCPenney advertise they sell the gear, it’s gone quicker than Shaun Alexander in an open field.
The Pro Shop is on the west side of the stadium. Call for current hours, 206-682-2900.
1. Coffee with spirit: Ready … set … sip! Show your spirit with a sculpted coffee mug featuring a raised Seahawks logo; $12.
2. Hawk headwarmer: Great for game day, this Seahawks logo stadium knit cap will keep the head warm and dry and is available in Seahawks blue or gray; $15.
3. The team’s cookin’: The Seahawks Family Cookbook features 125 recipes from Seahawks players, coaches, alumni and staff. All proceeds benefit the Seahawks Leadership Academy. Some highlights include Paul Allen’s fresh king salmon cakes and creamed peas, coach Mike Holmgren’s rice and green chilies cheese bake, and Matt Hasselbeck’s “Comeback” chicken; $20.
4. Fit to a T: Try a Seahawks NFC Conference Champions T-shirt or one of the other styles of playoff tees that are available; most T-shirts available for $20 or less.
5. Start ‘em up: When it’s go time, start your engine with a Seahawks logo metal NFL key ring; $6.
6. They got game: Give the gift of game to any fan. Try a Seahawks Monopoly game where players can buy, sell and trade some of the Seattle team’s most valuable players, such as Steve Largent, Dave Krieg and Shaun Alexander. Recommended for ages 8 and older. Play with two to six players; $40.
