I was both saddened and happy to hear that Keith Gerhart, radio voice of the Silvertips, announced today he was leaving the area to move to Indianapolis. We were fortunate to get four good years out of Keith. With his talent and personality, I figured he wouldn’t be here for long. He’s a great broadcaster, but an even better guy.
In a big way, Keith introduced Snohomish County to the game. As the play-by-play guy since Day 1 of the Silvertips, Keith showed his talent by describing the action clearly, yet with great emotion. Some said he was too much of a homer, but I forgave him because he’s so good at what he does and I know for a fact that he liked the players.
He could jolt me out of my seat with a sudden “GO-O-O-O-O-O-AL!!!” call. And he always was easy to work with, especially in tracking down players we wanted to interview for a story.
Best story Keith ever told me was one in which he was interviewing a player for, I think, a radio segment. He asked the player what he thought he brought to the team, and the player said, “Well, I brought my skates, my stick, my pads …”
Have a great future, Keith. It was great working with you!
