Headlines say Silvertips both soar and stink

Had to giggle a bit at Sunday’s sports section.

I went on and on in my column about the streaking Silvertips, saying they are a solid darkhorse to go pretty far in the playoffs. Next to the column is Nick Patterson’s writeup on the “disgusting” Tips, who barely survived overtime against lowly Portland.

That happens. I tend to write about trends. The fact is that the Silvertips are on a big-time roll. They leapfrogged Kelowna primarily on the strength of winning eight of the last nine games, not necessarily from Saturday’s performance. Most of my column was written Saturday, before the Portland game and after Everett’s sizzling, 2-0 win over Seattle Friday night.

So they were probably a little full of themselves and looked past the Winter Hawks. That happens. It just looks funny in the newspaper when one headline says they’re playing great and the other says they stink.

Ah, well. Another day in the life of mass media.
