Providence Health & Services is offering free classes to help those approaching age 65 sort out their Medicare options. The informational sessions, hosted at Providence locations by Connexion Insurance Solutions, a local independent agent, are scheduled through December.

DIFFICULT EMOTIONS
A Difficult Emotions program will help participants learn how thoughts and feelings impact body, mind, and spirit. This group will help to identify personal triggers and behaviors when challenging emotions arise, explore new and existing ways to manage difficult emotions and build resiliency. The group will meet 5:30 to 7 p.m. every Monday for eight weeks beginning next week at the Verdant Community Wellness Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. VETERAN RESOURCES
A one-stop resource center in Lynnwood serves veterans and their families. Local professionals are available at the center to assist with referrals to Veterans Affairs, medical and employment assistance, career transitions — or to offer a cup of coffee with conversation. The center, organized by the city of Lynnwood and Snohomish County Human Services, is open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday and on the first Wednesday of each month at the Verdant Community Wellness Center, Madrona Room, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.

EARLY ONSET MEMORY LOSS
Are you concerned about your memory loss? The Alzheimer’s Association Early Stage Younger Onset support groups provide a place to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are living with mild memory loss and related changes. It is open to those concerned about memory loss whose conditions were diagnosed before age 65. Meetings are 1 to 2 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in Lynnwood. Pre-registration is required. MEATLESS MEALS
Exploring “Meatless Mondays” is a free class during which registered dietitian nutritionists will introduce beginners to plant-based diets and their health benefits. The class will meet 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Verdant Community Wellness Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. The first hour of the session will cover what a vegetarian diet is, easy steps to reduce meat consumption, the health benefits and tips to gradually incorporate vegetarian recipes into your meals. During the second hour, participants will move to the teaching kitchen for a cooking demo. Recipes and samples will be provided. the class is organized by Total Health, Sound Dietitians and the Verdant Health Commission. A free play-and-learn group is open to children of all abilities up to age 5. The next play group will meet 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Verdant Community Wellness Center, 4710 196th St. SW, Lynnwood. ALZHEIMER’S WALK
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and 16 locations in our region, this event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions. The 2016 walk in Snohomish County begins with registration and opening ceremonies from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Oct. 1 The two-mile walk starts at 9:45 a.m. from the Port of Everett Boxcar Park, 1205 Craftsman Way in Everett. PINK THE RINK
The Everett Silvertips will host their 8th annual Pink the Rink hockey game, a special night to raise funds for the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center. A portion of all ticket sales from the game against against the Seattle Thunderbirds, 7:05 p.m., Oct. 15, will be donated to the Breast Center. AUTISM EARLY OPEN
The Pacific Science Center in Seattle presents Exploration for All: Autsim Early Open 8 to 10 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, through December. Families affected by autism spectrum disorder are invited to explore the center’s exhibits during free sessions without crowds and with general lighting and noise reduced.

SKY VALLEY CLASSIC
The Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA will present its 8th annual Sky Valley Classic run, with 10K, 5K and one mile scenic runs starting at 9 a.m. Oct. 29. Proceeds will benefit youth programs in Snohomish County. Registration fees range from $6 to $35 depending on ages and specific events. Dscounts are available through Oct. 1.
