Heather Lake Trail No. 701
What: A short, but muddy walk up to a lake beneath Mount Pilchuck.
Length: 3.8 miles roundtrip
Difficulty: Easy.
Beginning elevation: 1,600 feet.
Elevation gain: 850 feet.
Permit: Northwest Forest Pass
Map: Green Trails No. 109, Granite Falls
Notes: Heather Lake makes for a nice, if somewhat soggy, winter outing. The views, if the clouds aren’t too low, are always beautiful, and climbing the rocky shores of the lake itself will at least get you out of the mud.
