Too, too tulips: The daffodils, hyacinths and crocuses are blooming and the tulips will be popping up soon for the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.
The festival officially runs through April 30 during the peak blooming time. Only Mother Nature knows exactly when the tulips will be in bloom so call ahead (360-428-5959) or check the festival’s Web site in advance: www.tulipfestival.org.
Dozens of activities are planned and visitors enjoy pursuing the fields with their carpets of blooms.
Zoo doo: It’s time for Woodland Park Zoo’s annual Spring Fecal Fest. Here’s the scoop: The zoo holds a drawing and randomly selects lucky winners drawn from postcards submitted. If your name is selected, you can purchase a garbage bagful up to a pickup truckful, but you’ll have to, uh, load it yourself.
You can send postcards (one per customer) until Saturday to Zoo Doo, Woodland Park Zoo, 601 N. 59th St., Seattle, WA 98103. Include your name, day and evening phone numbers and the amount of Zoo Doo you’d like to buy.

Pick up will begin April 21. Prices for trucks are 8×4 bed $60; 6×4 bed $45; 6×3 bed $35. Garbage cans are $8 to $10, and bags are $4 to $6 depending on size. Limit one full truck per person. Two-gallon and pint-sized buckets also are available in the ZooStore for $14.95 and $4.95, respectively.
Water wiseguys: Learn waterwise gardening techniques at the 2006 Spring Garden Fair April 22 in Bothell.
The Northshore Utility District, the Woodinville Water District and the Saving Water Partnership are sponsoring the free fair, which will run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Woodmoor Elementary School, 12225 NE 160th St. in Bothell.
Local horticulture experts such a Ciscoe Morris and Marianne Binetti, will present seminars and answer questions. The city of Woodinville will offer rain barrels and compost bins for sale, and there’ll even be activities for the kids.
