Growing heirloom vegetables: A workshop providing advanced training for food gardeners takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at Cougar Auditorium, McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Plant sale: The Snohomish Conservation District is taking orders for the 2014 Conservation Plant Sale that will take place March 1 at the Evergreen State Fairgrounds in Monroe. Presale orders are being taken until Feb. 10. Plants include native trees, shrubs and ground covers. Country Living Expo: Registration is open for the Jan. 25 Country Living Expo and Cattlemen’s Winterschool. There are 175 classes from beef and bees to sheep and swine, and 60 more classes including small engine repair, choosing tractors, curing meats and others. Registration fee is $70. Youth fees are $40 ($10 for the first 200 to sign up). Fee includes five classes, coffee and pastries in the morning and lunch. All day trade show entrance is free. Northwest Flower &Garden Show: The annual show is set for Feb. 5 through 9 at Washington State Convention Center, Seventh and Pike, Seattle. Hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day but Sunday when the show closes at 6 p.m. Buy tickets online at www.gardenshow.com before Feb. 5 and save $5. Admission at the door is $22. Group rates available.
