Marysville’s Junk in the Trunk: The sale is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Marysville Municipal Courthouse parking lot, 1015 State Ave., Marysville. Plant sale: Arboretum Foundation’s Fall Abundance Plant Sale is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Graham Visitors Center in the Washington Park Arboretum, 2300 Arboretum Drive E., Seattle. The sale will include young trees, shrubs, rhododendrons, camellias, primroses, gentians and other perennials, ferns and conifers. Monroe Garden Club: Meets at noon Sept. 10 at Monroe United Methodist Church, 342 S. Lewis St., Monroe. Learn about the “History of Soils in the Area,” presented by Wolfkill Feed & Fertilizer of Monroe, as well as the history of the Monroe Garden Club. Wildlife Habitat Gardening: Learn what kinds of plants and gardening practices will turn your run-of-the-mill garden into a microhabitat for native wildlife at a presentation by Alicia Kellogg, community conservation technician for the Snohomish Conservation District, from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 15. Meet in the portable at Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens, 145 Alverson Blvd., Everett. Free to members, $10 non-members. Join online or the day of class. RSVP required.

Sizzle and subtlety: “Truly Compelling Combinations — Creating Sizzle and Subtlety,” by Brenda Adams, is the next in a series of talks put on by the Northwest Perennial Alliance. Repair Cafe: Have things like a broken lamp or a vacuum with a broken belt? Bring them to the Repair Cafe, set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22, WSU Snohomish County Extension’s Education Center, 600 128th St. SE, Everett. Local repair specialists will offer free advice. The event is hosted by Washington State University Snohomish County Extension’s Sustainable Community Stewards. Registration is recommended. Walk-ins are welcome. More at www.extension.wsu.edu.

Everett Fall Home Show: The event promises more than 225 home improvement booths. It’s set for Sept. 28, 29 and 30 at Angel of the Winds Arena, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett. Hours are noon to 7 p.m. Sept. 28, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 29 and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 30. Admission is $7 for adults and $6 for people 62 and older. More at www.everettfallhomeshow.com.

Sky Valley Farm Festival: The festival is 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 6 on River’s End Cattle Ranch and Groeneveld Dairy Farm along Fern Bluff Road in Sultan. Features farm tours, wagon rides, horse rides, apple slingshot and roping lessons. Some activities have a fee. More at skyvalleychamber.com.

Get mushy: Snohomish County Mycological Society’s annual wild mushroom show is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 at Floral Hall in Forest Park, 802 E. Mukilteo Blvd., Everett. The show features mushroom displays, kits, books and videos. Learn to distinguish more than 100 different species of wild mushrooms. Bring your own mushroom samples for identification. A class on mushroom identification is set for 1 p.m. The event is free, with donations accepted. More at www.scmsfungi.org.

Call for gardens: The Mukilteo Way Garden Club is seeking gardens to feature in the 2019 Mukilteo Garden and Quilt Tour. The club will be previewing gardens this summer for this popular biennial event held in partnership the Mukilteo Lighthouse Quilters. Call 425-870-1775. More at www.mwgc.org.

Become a master: Master gardener training classes start in January. Research, educate, mentor and answer horticulture questions for the public in a collaborative environment. All training is open book and no memorization is expected. Training involves about 80 hours of classroom and workshop instruction held once a week on Thursdays through March. Tuition is $275, plus a volunteer commitment of 40 hours each year for two years on a variety of horticultural and environmental educational projects.
