If you want to visit a Bavarian winter wonderland this holiday season but don’t want to drive, then take the daylight snow train.
Tickets are on sale now for the Holiday Snow Train to Leavenworth’s Tree Lighting Festival with trains leaving each Saturday in December from stations in Everett and Edmonds, and from King Street Station in Seattle.
This is the 15th year Alki Tours has offered this daylight rail ride to the quaint Bavarian-style town of Leavenworth. The train winds through the Snohomish valley and then ascends into Steven’s Pass.
Along the way passengers dine on a catered continental breakfast and enjoy entertainment including strolling musicians, commentators, magicians and Santa.
Near the 4,000-foot summit, the train transits the Cascade Tunnel, the second longest in North America.
At 12:30 p.m., the train is scheduled to roll into Leavenworth.
And Leavenworth is ready to receive holiday revelers who will find chestnuts roasting and carolers strolling along with food booths, sleigh rides, outdoor entertainment and more.
At dusk, passengers are invited to sing “Silent Night” around the grand tree during the lighting ceremony.
Passengers then take the train home. A catered dinner is served on the return trip and the entertainment continues for the ride back.
The price is $149 for adults and $139 for children for standard seating. Early reservations are recommended because the train sells out every year.
