Ideas for weekend fun

Watch a local film: A mockumentary, “The Historic,” about a group of teens working at the Historic Everett Theatre plays this Sunday in Everett. The storyline has the downtown Everett theater on the brink of being sold when a former worker-turned-famous Hollywood filmmaker wants to premiere his new flick there. See the details in our story here.

See Disney On Ice: “Toy Story 3” brings to life Woody and the entire gang from Andy’s toy chest. The show is fun for grown-ups and kids even if they haven’t seen the animated films. The show runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Find details in our story here.

Help the Sound: If you’d like to do something to help the environment, but feel overwhelmed by the enormity of the challenge, this weekend’s event might be for you. “Sound Living: Exploring the Connections Between Water, Land and People,” is Saturday at Everett Community College. The educational event will feature more than 40 local experts who will speak on topics such as salmon, sea birds, harbor seals, endangered whales, fisheries restoration, algae blooms and contaminants in Snohomish County waters. You can register the day of the event. Find more details in our story here.

Shop for books: Book sale: The Friends of the Arlington Library offer an all-new book sale from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday. It’s planned at the Stillaguamish Valley Genealogy Library, 135 S. Olympic Ave., in downtown Arlington. The books were donated by the owner of a bookstore that recently went out of business.

Take a trip: If you like wine, Walla Walla may be the place for you this weekend. Take a road trip and enjoy Fall Release Weekend from Friday to Sunday. More than 70 wineries in the valley are opening their doors and offering their newest vintages for tasting. It’s a combination of crisp wine and crisp fall weather for a weekend trip. Read more in our story here.

One more note: Don’t forget to turn back your clocks one hour on Sunday morning.
