Imports, in-house designs for decor

Festivities Imports &Design, 111 Main St., in downtown Edmonds provides shoppers with an upscale alternative to home decor. Imported items are selected by hand on trips to south Asia by owner Philippa Robison, while the store’s metal creations are designed by husband and co-owner Rob.

The Robisons’ import and design company opened in Edmonds nearly 10 years ago and features ceramics, silk and bamboo items and furniture. They offer custom design services and most items can be ordered through their catalogs. A Web site with store items will be running soon.

1. Ceramic delights: This line of hand-thrown orchid-glazed ceramics from Thailand features a rich purple to delicate lavender glaze made from an ancient 5,000-year-old recipe that originated during the Southern Sung Dynasty (1127-1279). Items are also available with a Hunan black or tea-leaf glaze. The stoneware features vases, tea cups, bowls, plates and a sugar and creamer set; $92 fluted teapot with orchid glaze, $52 for Hunan black or tea leaf.

2. Elegant light: The Phillip table lamp in bronze is topped with a Dupioni silk shade. Robison’s designs are sent to local Northwest artisans who handcraft the bases and provide a hand-rubbed finish; $475.

3. Pile of pillows: From the silk collection, bright hues accentuate 19-inch and 25-inch pillows made with imported Indian and Thai silks available in 20 colors. Filled with European goose down, these pillows are hand-sewn locally and feature German cotton ticking and knife-edge construction. Also available are silk tissue box covers, table runners and custom bedding; $68 for 19-inch pillows, $130 for 25-inch.

4. Hyacinth handiwork: Hand-woven hyacinth furniture is made from the water hyacinth that grows abundantly in Thailand’s rivers and canals. The roots of the plants are sun-dried, plaited and woven into spokes of rattan then accented with teak for durability. Production of the environmentally friendly furniture pieces typically takes two to three days to complete; $950 villa armchair, $395 ottoman, $2,100 sofa.

5. Zigzag seating: Bamboo Z chairs are made by a bamboo flooring company in Thailand, then imported to Festivities. The zigzag design is available in a variety of finishes, including a wide natural striping and narrow coffee striping. The chairs are 34M\, inches by 201/2 inches by 163/4 inches; $360.
