Garden show winner: Wells Nursery of Mount Vernon received a bronze medal for a display garden the nursery created for the Northwest Flower and Garden Show.

Wells, which collaborated with Land Improvement of Snohomish and A-lluminating Waterfalls &Exotic Gardens Inc. of Mount Vernon on the display, was one of 25 participants in the show’s Display Gardens.

Home &Garden featured Wells Nursery in an article previewing the show Feb. 3. Wells and their collaborators created a 1,250-square-foot display they called “The Backyard Retreat.” The garden showcases plants and materials available exclusively in the Skagit Valley, including a selection of Wells’ signature grafted and ornamental conifers.

Seattle home show: The 61st annual Seattle Home Show will be Feb. 19 through 27 at Qwest Field Event Center, 1000 Occidental Ave. S., Seattle.

The show features more than 600 displays of home and garden products plus Idea Street, featuring furnished and landscaped model homes, daily seminars, model kitchen and bath vignettes, and the newest in building products and materials.

Tickets are $9, $5 seniors, $3 ages 7 to 15, and are available at the door or at www.seattlehomeshow.com.

Everett rocks: Hundreds of rock garden enthusiasts from United States and Canada are expected to attend a study weekend called “Beyond Buns: Setting the Stage” at the Quality Inn Hotel in Everett Feb. 25 to 27.

Unusual bulbs, dwarf shrubs, and rock garden design are some of the topics speakers will cover in a series of lectures throughout the weekend.

Those who attend the study weekend can also tour private gardens in the area and take part in book, art, plant and seed sales. Door prizes are given out before each session and organizers will hold a silent auction.

The public is welcome to attend the event but must be registered for the entire weekend. Cost is $175 before Feb. 18 and $190 after that date. The cost includes meals from Friday night until Sunday morning.

Garden talks: The Snohomish County Master Gardener Foundation is hosting its second annual garden talks featuring experts from the Puget Sound region.

Classes are 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at McCollum Park, 600 128th St. SE, Everett.

Tickets are $65 for entire series or $12 per session.

Garden classes: The Center for Urban Horticulture at the University of Washington announces its winter schedule of classes and lectures for January through March.

Horticultural therapy class: Edmonds Community College’s Social and Human Services department offers a horticultural therapy classes.

In the “Indoor Programs for Horticultural Therapy,” learn about designing and implementing therapeutic horticulture activities throughout the year. The class is 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 26.
