In Skagit Valley, Tulip Festival now in full bloom

It’s Friday the 13th and hopefully your luck is good and the tulips are blooming.

The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival continues through April. Early varieties are up and more tulips are predicted to be popping through April 22.

When you have seen your share of tulips or want to add other activities to your day, here are a few events going on this weekend in the Skagit Valley:

•Kids Giant Garage Sale: 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Burlington Parks &Rec Center; 900 E. Fairhaven Ave., Burlington. Shop for deals where the tables are rented by kids who have cleaned out their rooms to sell their board games, trading cards, video games, action figures and other toys, books and sports equipment. Free. More information at www.ci.burlington.wa.us.

•Tulip Frolic: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Gilkey Square, at the end of Morris Street, in downtown La Conner. Join the toe-tapping fun under the tent on the big stage.

Paccar Technical Center Open House: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 12479 Farm to Market Road, Mount Vernon. Self-guided tours of this 242-acre site where kids can investigate how Paccar tests and develops its vehicles; kids can sit inside and explore Kenworth, Peterbilt and DAF trucks. Free.

•Kiwanis Salmon Barbecue: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily through April 22 at Hillcrest Lodge, 1717 S. 13th St., Mount Vernon. You gotta eat, right? The 25th annual alder grilled salmon barbecue offers baked potato, coleslaw, garlic bread, beverages and ice cream. Adult plate $12, child and senior plate $10. Groups of 15 or more, call 360-428-5959 to get reservations. More information at www.kiwanismv.net.

•La Conner Kiwanis Parade: 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, along First Street in La Conner. Line-up for the parade is on Sixth Street in La Conner at the school complex. Day-of-parade entries welcome for the 27th annual Not So Impromptu Kiwanis Tulip Parade, and no entry is too small; wacky impromptu entries are welcome along with farm animals, mascots and your favorite pets.
