Give local singer Stacie Calkins more than just a little respect.
On Saturday, she’ll bring Aretha Franklin to life in a special tribute concert, “Aretha at the Apollo,” at the Historic Everett Theatre.
The performance is less celebrity impersonation and more of way to honor Franklin, said David Duvall, the artistic director of Purple Phoenix Productions, the group behind the concert.
“Stacie is astounding,” he said.
The two-hour show features songs from Franklin’s long career, including early numbers through her pop favorites. Songs include “This Could Be The Start Of Something Big,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “Spirit In The Dark” and Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma.”
Calkins will be backed up by three singers and an eight-piece band, Duvall said.
“Working on the Aretha stuff always makes me feel better,” he said.
The show will start at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Everett Theatre, 2911 Colby Ave., Everett.
Tickets cost $16.50 for adults, $13.50 for students, seniors or military, and $11.50 for groups of eight or more people. Buy tickets at the box office, www.etix.com or by calling 425-258-6766.
