An Everett church is showcasing some of Alfred Hitchcock’s most haunting thrillers in a series of free Friday-night screenings followed by discussions.

The object is to take a look at how vividly the director portrayed the inner turmoil some consider sin and others consider madness.

No matter what your take is, the movies are classics.

Bring a potluck dish and friends.

All screenings start at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 2936 Rockefeller Ave., Everett. For more information, call 425-259-7139.

Here’s the lineup:

“Strangers on a Train,” Feb 4: Robert Walker and Farley Granger star in this tale of a chance encounter on a train between a tennis pro and a psychotic that leads to murder and extortion.

“Rear Window,” Feb. 18: Set in a back courtyard in Greenwich Village, this story focuses on L.B. Jeffries (James Stewart), who is apartment bound with a broken leg. His time spent staring out his back window leads him to believe his neighbor is a murderer. With Grace Kelly and Raymond Burr.

“Vertigo,” March 4: James Stewart also stars in this classic tale. He plays a detective forced to retire because of his fear of heights who becomes obsessed with a woman. With Kim Novak in dual roles.

“Psycho,” March 18: Check into the Bates Motel in this thriller starring Anthony Perkins and Janet Leigh. Yes, this is the movie with the famous shower scene and the creepy mother.

“The Birds,” April 1: Poor Tippi Hedren. She suffers so, thanks to the crows and seagulls of Bodega Bay. An all-star cast including Jessica Tandy, Suzanne Pleshette, Veronica Cartwright and Rod Taylor join the horror.
