Well, as with anything green, it’s complicated. Yes, no, um, probably not, seems to be the answer from my favorite eco-genius Umbra Fisk at Grist.
Fisk, who writes extensively on consumer choices and their impacts, so beautifully and succinctly explains the processed-food industry and all its baggage that you simply must, must check it out.
Better yet, subscribe.
Though you can’t yet subscribe via e-mail to my blog or comment directly on it yet, you can get on board with The Herald’s handy RSS feeds which will automatically post all of my groovy musings and content to your own personal news page. Again, it’s kind of complicated, but so, so worth it, of course. The Herald’s own Elaine Helm explains it in her “Webbed Feet” blog.
Finally, I’m wondering, fellow Eco Geeks, is there a processed food product you can’t do without even though you know it’s about as green as Chilean sea bass? I’d like to hear about it.
Mine? Well, I’ll confess: I’m trying to kick the Splenda habit. I love things that are supersweet, especially in my coffee. Stevia, a natural herb, is probably a good alternative, but it’s not quite the same.
