Maybe it was because MTV fans have eternally shrinking attention spans and MTV execs didn’t want their viewers to forget who’s hosting the annual MTV Video Music Awards this year.
Or maybe they just couldn’t find anyone who wanted the gig.
Or maybe Will Ferrell and Jack Black had to thumb-wrestle for it.
Whatever the case, there were only three weeks until showtime and still no host.
You could cut the tension with a knife. It was what we were all waiting for. And when the announcement came today it was like a — hey, is that a butterfly?
Sorry. Where was I?
Tension. Host. MTV Video Music Awards.
Ah, yes. Jack Black.
Black will host the awards from in New York City’s Radio City Music Hall at 5 p.m. Aug. 31 on the channel formerly known as “Music Television.”
“My plan is to bring the thunder,” he said in an MTV press release. “I’ve got my top men working on it as we speak in my thunder laboratory. Radio City Music Hall will never be the same.”
Beyonce, Panic! at the Disco, T.I., The Killers, Ludacris, and Justin Timberlake are confirmed to perform and more performers and presenters will be announced in the coming days.
